                n a horrific sequence of events Eileen "Trixie" Sobieck was spared serious injury as the school bus she was riding in crashed into a ditch during it's morning pick ups.

Sobieck a bus aide and substitute teachers aide for Syble Hopp School was going about her own business on board the bus she usually rides every morning and night when suddenly the unthinkable

happened. The bus which was normally driven by Peggy Pickett was operated by a substitute Friday, and you might very well link that with the crash however that was not the case. The substitute driver was long time employee and part of the bus companies
management team, Stacy Rose.

According to accounts from Sobieck, Rose who could not be reached for comment, reacted to a bear that had fallen on the ice in the roadway and she swerved on an icy road to avoid hitting the fallen animal. Rose lost control of the bus and slid into the ditch with the bus nearly tipping on it's side according to Sobieck. Sobieck who sat near the center of the bus hit her head on impact however sustained no injury, the same cannot be said for the bus however as her head nearly punctured the roof of the bus.  (see photo upper right)

The children riding the bus are all buckled in on their wheel chairs and were unhurt as well. After Sobieck determined she was unhurt she assisted Rose with getting the children out the buses back door and lined up on the roadway awaiting another bus to pick them up. When the children were gone Rose smoked a cigarette to relieve the stress and waited for the bear to get up.

This week an old friend writes in to ask the question: Why are your cookies SO GOOD?
The Question comes from fellow bus driver and long time friend Lana Stauber. Lana is one of the fancy ladies, so named by Jean Poquette Hansen,  and wishes to be addressed as "Aunt Lana."

Dear Aunt Lana;

Although I have made numerous batches of cookies that people have enjoyed over the years, such was not the case when I began my cookie making career.

Making cookies is a knack and either you've got it or you don't. In my case I acquired it after much trial and error. What I've found is that anyone can bake the cookies but decorating is another story. The reason my cookies are so delectable is that I have my husband Mike help decorate the cookies. After I have frosted them Mike puts on the sprinkles giving them the "mans touch." I can't explain it, all I can say is that it works, cookies that go untouched by Mike seem to be rated by ravenous cookie eaters as "ho hum." however cookies decorated by Mike with his expert sprinkles knowledge are always raved about by notable cookie consumers. That's all the news that is news, see ya.
