4TH PARTY SEES ATTENDANCE WANE
KAMR file photo
any say the heat was a major factor but other mitigating factors caused the attendance of the annual Vanlanens 4th of July party to see the lowest attendance in years.

Four families and a few stragglers were the only ones to attend the usual packed gala affair at the modest Vanlanen home on County Trunk U in the Town of Oneida. Dick Poquette and wife Cleen along with their first born Rick and his wife Bobbie and family were one of the few families to have small children at the event. Once the Treml's showed up then some older children could be seen foraging for food in the kitchen along with a variety of other tweens and the like from Alissa Vanlanen and Joel and Shelly Sobieck's offspring.

Those not shut up in the house found some comfort from the heat behind the garage where a gentle breeze found a path between the garage and the woods. The picnic table and lawn chairs were pulled to the spot of relief where small children sat with parents and grandparents to get instructions on what to eat and negotiate how many bites of each item on their plate had to be eaten before play could resume. People sat outside pleasantly and visited out of the sun and were only interrupted periodically by Cleen briefly blasting out warnings and instructions to grandson Riker who was on the other side of the yard.

The 4 families along with Bob Vanlanen and guest and Joanne Lade and me made a dent in the food however many hamburgers awaited picking from the roaster. A small plate was made up for the Kat who was not in attendance due to medical reasons. Others who attended in the past were out of town working, doing other things to keep cool, disabled or incarcerated.

Margaret, "Peg" Vanlanen used the opportunity consume large quantities of alcohol and became somewhat intoxicated. Talking out of her head and giving food away on a wholesale basis she dominated the conversation in the kitchen and made farewells to guests as they left.
Sparse attendance and the heat at the party caused many to stay inside
RESERVATIONS MADE FOR GOLF

KAT RECOVERS FROM SURGERY
The Kat who in the past has suffered from knee related problems has had knee scope surgery. The procedure involves cutting a small incision and inserting a small telescope with a tiny tree prunner
and trowel attached to it. The doctor snips and smooth's the worn out areas attempting to renew the damaged innards of the knee. The effects are painful and results may not be known for months or years later. Kat cried while ascending the stairway to go to bed the night after the procedure. Today however she is much better and takes the mind
numbing drugs given to her by the doctor only a few times a day.

That's all the news that is news, see ya.
